| Courage.
I find courage in being a military child, both from the advantages and disadvantages. Being a military brat gave me an experience my parents didn’t have. I get the chance to visit countries I’ve never been to and can learn about the culture and language. Which I think is awesome. I get to move a lot and I love to travel. I was born in Virginia, U.S.A., but not only lived there. For I lived in Texas, Colorado, Alabama, Maryland and California. After California, we moved here to Korea. Whilst in Korea, I’ve been to other countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Vietnam. I too have been to Jamaica, but that was about a decade ago. Now that I am older, I am engrossed in learning information about these different countries. Either dealing with politics, natural disasters, cultural differences and similarities, holidays, etc. Even if they seem bad, the information I get gives me courage to think about them a lot, and possibly use those for future references. Now of course there are awesome, positive things about being a military brat, because it’s also encouraged me to be in the military— Air Force specifically. Though, there are major downfalls to all this travel and repeated moving. My courage can decrease when it comes to this topic. Once you make friends and become familiar with the people around you, you’ve got to move. Maybe not even to a whole ‘nother state, but country! These friends could then be your best friends, and with a great friendship, lead to colleagues and friends as adults! However, you just have to leave because of PCSing. You lose your friends, your love for your place and could maybe develop depression from the stress. The lack of engaging with others can then make you stand alone, not even knowing the new, other people you could meet and learn about. Here is when your courage disappears, but you have to regain it. Doing anything fun, can make it reappear. Military bases give you a lot of opportunities for this to occur. The fun events they have, parties, neighborhood yard sales, libraries, Exchange…Can’t forget the food court! Because here, you can regain your courage and it gives you a time to bond with those you’re mutual with! Here, your courage is great and can be for a long time if you learn to adapt to it.
