In my opinion, courage is a feeling people choose to feel. Many people ask “What is courage?”  Well, everyone is scared of something. When you are scared and you don’t want to do it, but you do it anyway, you are feeling courage.   Courage is doing something you are afraid of.

There are lots of different ways to show courage and I know because I do it all the time. Examples of courage is if you are in a dark basement and suddenly you have a blackout.  The easy thing to do is to just go around or call an electrician, but that’s not showing courage.  To make yourself feel courage, you have to go into the dark and find the power source and fix it yourself.  You are doing something you don’t want to do.

The feeling closest to courage is bravery.  A story that relates to courage for me is when I was four years old and I went to the beach.  There was a very tall bridge where you could jump off into the water. At first I was scared and wanted to be with my family where I felt safe. Eventually, I jumped off because I got inspired by the other kids who did it. Again, I didn’t think I could do it, but I still did it and was proud of myself for having the courage to overcame my fear. Another example is about Martin Luther King Jr.  He knew he was not accepted because of the color of his skin.  He he was willing to give up his life to help black people gain freedom because he believed everyone should be treated equally. Even though a lot of people did not agree with him, he showed courage by giving a speech about the importance of equality. Over time, he passed away, but the black people were given their freedom and it was all because Martin Luther King, Jr. had the courage to speak up. Courage is difficult because it might be the opposite of what your friends think and some may not agree. Courage is important because it is a way for you to get over your fears and get used to something you don’t want to do. In conclusion, courage is a feeling many people experience, even those who are famous like Martin Luther King, Jr.
