Courage is something that we all poses, yet some of us can access our reserve a bit better, like having a larger shovel to dig with. The life of a military child forces us to start digging fast- as soon as we begin to understand that there are no breaks in life, or moving. I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in August 2012. We moved to San Antonio, Texas. Then to Aurora ,Colorado, which is about an hour away from Denver, right before I turned four. Before Colorado I only had “friends.” But in Colorado I made several real  friends, not just toddler playmates. Then we moved to Fort Polk, which is now called Fort Johnson, but it will always be Fort Polk to me. For me school hopping is not a problem, since  am homeschooled. 2020 was a terrible year for me. In Feb my dad was deployed to Kosovo for 9 months. Then there were several tornados. In August Cat. 4  hurricane, hurricane Laura struck. Then Cat. 4 hurricane Delta. At that time I was in Jiu-jitsu, small but successful!  I was also sadly in gymnastics. I say sadly because after about nine years it becomes old. Displeasure is not deadly, but it takes courage to survive two Cat. 4 hurricanes! At this point, I had three best friends: Alana, Avonlea and Deanna. Of the tree, I keep it touch best with Avonlea. Then fall 2022, the most destructive bomb struck. My parents told me they were getting divorced. I had zero warning. “You must have noticed we were not like other couples.” Nope! I had not noticed, it was normal to me. But June 2023, my dad left for Hawaii, Oahu again. Then around five months later, while I was on a trip to see my dad, my mom got remarried. On top of all that, we moved to Fort Leonard Wood less than a week from Christmas, since my mom’s new husband was in the army too. By now I was 10. My life was at Fort Polk ( Fort Johnson). My friends my horse back riding stable, everything. Even now, over a year later, I have not adjusted. Imagine you are in a cozy cave. Ping! A pickaxe strikes the wall, and then the whole cave collapses. That is what I felt like.  Feel like. Except I hade many pickaxes. It took almost all of my courage reserve to not shut down forever and give up. Every single morning it takes courage to get out of bed. Everybody has courage, and everybody has a story where they have to use that courage, and this was mine
