Some people might think that courage means to gain confidence to do something. But, it is the complete opposite. Courage means to overcome your fear in a matter of seconds. For example, if I have a fear of heights and I go on a ferris-wheel, I now have overcome one of my fears. But, to gain courage it takes time. It could take a while for someone to gain courage. But in an emergency it would have to take a few seconds to decide.

But, you may ask, why is facing a fear called courage?
Facing a fear is called courage because it is the understanding of using fear to fuel constructive action that leads to success. Fear is a common and natural feeling. Courage is derived from being able to overcome those feelings. Courage is about being afraid and still choosing to do something anyway.

Where did the word courage come from? The word courage came from the word cor. Cor is the Latin word for heart. The word courage was invented around the 1300’s. In one of its earliest forms, courage meant “To speak one’s mind by telling all one’s heart”. The word courage also came from the bible and has another meaning. The meaning of the word courage in the bible is, “to show oneself strong”.

Military people have to move a lot because of their job. Military people have the courage to even be in the military since it takes a lot of work. It also takes a lot of time to finish. It can also be hard for Military children because they have to make new friends and have to get used to a bunch of new places because they would have to move a lot.

But sometimes they might have to leave some of their stuff behind. Military children would need to have the courage to talk to new people and make friends.
