What is courage? some people say courage is the ability to standup to fear or being brave in impossible odds. While courage is essentially those things people say, I believe its more than just having guts in an impossible situation. I think that having courage is possessing the ability to look deep into yourself and say that you can do this. When you drive yourself to keep going and not give up even when you’re uncertain of what may happen is the true definition of the word courage. Never giving up even when others talk down about or have no faith in you is what courage is all about. To give an example of courage in the real world, I’ll use Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman was a former slave and central to the underground railroad movement during the 1800’s, she ran away to the north to be free and live a better life for herself but soon after she made it to the north, she returned to the south to free others from the oppression of slavery in the south. Harriet spent countless nights and countless days running back and forth from north to south and during all that time fear must’ve at some point crossed her mind of the things the white folks would do to her and the runaway’s she was helping get to the north. Despite the risk though she continued to run from north to south and from south to north and she did all of this with courage, she looked deep within herself and found the true courage to help her African American sisters and brothers to freedom. In conclusion, even when all the odds are against you and you feel like your luck has run out, never give up the feeling inside that deep feeling that you can and you will prevail. Because that feeling deep inside is the true courage you have and it’s time to let that courage out.
