Courage

Luke Anderson

Courage has shaped my military life in a big way. Every time we move, I feel sad, but I use my courage to power through. For example, when we moved to this new location it was hard to find friends. I needed to be brave and courageous the first days of school and introduce myself to so many new people. I was able to make a few good friends who were able to help me figure out how to survive a new middle school. I have also relied on my courage to try new things at my school. For example, I’ve never rowed before, but I decided in the fall to join the rowing team. I could’ve easily quit because I didn’t have any friends on the team at first. I was also not expecting it to be so difficult and so much work. But now, I love rowing and have many friends there. I am so glad I joined the team. Sometimes you just have to dig deep and try something new.  Every time I move, I also need to find a new Scout troop. This means I must try out different troops and decide which one I want to go to. It takes courage to go to these scout meetings and to make the decision of which one to join. It can be difficult because I don’t know anyone, and I don’t know the events they are talking about. Sometimes you just need to rely on your courage and trust yourself to make the right decision. These are just a few examples how courage has shaped my life as a military kid. I know these experiences will help me in the future. I can always power through with courage when things get tough.
