Embodying Courage

Evelyn McCawley

Courage is a grand trait. Courage is the quality of willingness that enables someone or something to confront fears or danger, regardless of the consequences. Courage comes in many forms, there’s emotional courage, social courage, intellectual courage, spiritual courage, physical courage, and many more. I’ve had a large fear of spiders ever since I was little, I still haven’t gotten over the fear. Not all people have courage. Courage is earned, not given, just like respect. Courage makes you feel good about yourself. Courage is something that many people have experienced, and that some people might experience. Courage is a beautiful thing, some people would say it’s majestic even. But, showing courage comes at a great cost, for example you might get hurt or in trouble. Some say that it’s worth the trouble, but others say it isn’t.

Courage is about asking yourself questions and persevering. Without courage, you’d never make an advancement. Many animals need courage too, animals need courage to hunt, they need to evaluate what could go wrong and choose the best path. The embodiment of courage is something people earn. Being a military child, like me, requires courage, hope, and overall being tough. Many things require courage, for example, standing up for yourself and/or someone else, doing a presentation, and expressing your emotions and thoughts. Fear is something that is something gathered before courage. The future can be something you have to face, many things you can fear. For example, dying, possible wars, and so much more.

With all that has been gathered, courage is something that comes soon after something that requires you to do something that has many risks. I’ve shown courage by going first for a presentation, and because of my anxiety, this can be hard for me. I’ve been working on getting better from this. Many others show courage by being on stage, being on TV, ect. Fear, courage, bravery, they all end in one of these, pride, sorrow, and pain. Courage costs an arm and a leg.
