Moving, a scary experience for anyone, child or adult.  What if someone had to move across the sea, to a different time zone, knowing you may never see or hear from your best friends ever again.  As a young child almost anyone will be scared of moving, leaving what you’re used to and having to start a new life in a place with unfamiliar faces.  As a child you have not yet formed unbreakable bonds, you don’t have a phone, nor have you learned much about life.  Having to move from Hawaii at a young age to a new place and a new home I was terrified.  I asked myself questions: what will it be like? Will I ever see my friends again? Will I be able to make new friends? Why?  So much uncertainty had formed around me and moving before my father moved to Virginia Beach meant that it was going to be tougher.  On top of that my father constantly went on deployments leaving me with just my sister and mother, leaving me without a father figure for a sizable part of my life.  I had to find courage to step outside of my comfort zone and talk to new people,  being in Virginia Beach I shortly found myself around people who were also military kids.  I was so scared that if I had formed friendships that I or my friends would wind up moving, but I had to take the courage to talk to new people or else I would just cave into despair.   When I first moved to Virginia Beach I was a part of Cub Scouts and I wouldn’t realize until later in my life when I was in boy scouts that scouting would serve such a vital role in my life.  Being without a father figure at times, those weekly meetings at scouts gave me an adult male to look up to who could act as a father figure at times when my father wasn’t around.  Despite the fear and uncertainty in my new life I decided to face the world with open arms and have the courage to talk to new people.
