Elizabeth Perry
Hi, my name is Elizabeth Perry and the best thing about being a military child is new experiences. As a military child I have moved quite a bit, but I have met so many wonderful people and have had many different experiences. So, in this essay I will explain my personal favorite part of being a military child.
My first reason for liking being a military child is seeing unfamiliar places. I grew up in Louisiana and lived a normal suburban style life. Then I moved to Alabama and there was this forest area and I loved playing in the creeks and exploring, climbing trees. In the woods with my friends was what made me happiest. For me I could only explain it as better than Disney world. Then I moved here to Wyoming. I said a sad goodbye to my friends there and hello to these breathtaking mountains and lush green fields. This is why I love seeing unfamiliar places.
My second reason for loving being a military child is meeting new people. I have met some genuinely nice people in my lifetime while strolling across the United States. In Louisiana I met Mabry, an extremely sweet little girl at the time. She never once treated me poorly. I also had Kahlan, we were good friends; she also had a fun backyard with a swing set. We had Ella who I played with mostly every day since I moved there. She had so much candy at her home, and I would sometimes get a soda there or ice cream. When I moved to Alabama I made friends with Alyssa. We would joke around and play in the woods. Once there was a war because someone destroyed Sebastian’s start to a hut. It was fun to have spies and shoot each other with nerf guns. Next, I moved here and played with a girl named Katryn. We loved to play games and joke around. Kate always had something to make you laugh – it was wonderful. We drifted apart but I made new friends, and their names are Sophia and Nora, who are my current friends. They are both very great people and I have never had drama with them. Sophia and Nora laughed a bunch. I love someone who listens to me because I love to joke. I am happy with the friends I have made over the years.
My third reason for loving being a military kid is food. My great grandmother (Grammy) is French Cajun – her family settled in Louisiana and for a while Grammy only spoke French. In Louisiana, we ate quite a bit of seafood, gumbo and best of all, moon pies. My dad is allergic to crustations, but I still got to eat them. Crustations are my favorite form of meat. In Alabama, it was your typical city food, but they did have corn which is my favorite healthy food. In Wyoming, I got to try real game for the first time, it was surprisingly good.
In conclusion, the best thing about being a military child is new experiences. You now know this because you get to meet new people, go to unfamiliar places, and try new food.
